Where Is Teaspressa From Shark Tank Today?
While many people fuel their days with coffee, that brewed beverage isn't everyone's cup of tea. Although the concept of high tea, finger sandwiches, and delicate china might be a scene from British lore, tea doesn't have be served with a side of pretentiousness. With Teaspressa, founder Allison DeVane sought to redefine the tea perspective.
Teaspressa appeared on "Shark Tank" Season 7, Episode 20. DeVane sought a $50,000 investment for 10% of the company, per the Shark Tank Blog. While her goal was to be the "Starbucks of tea," the budding businesswoman lacked clarity in her pitch.
From DeVane wanting to streamline her website to expanding storefronts to even adding a kitchenware concept, the sharks were reading the muddled tea leaves with clarity. Even if the concept had merit, it was too early in the game for a valuable investment. Teaspressa left the tank without a deal, but the experience didn't deter the brand's founder. There was still strength in that brewed beverage, and there were more stories to be poured.
How Teaspressa brewed success post-Shark Tank
Although the sharks passed on Allison DeVane's Teaspressa, Titan 100 describes the company as "the first and only beverage that is a hybrid of tea and coffee and offered as a healthy alternative to traditional caffeine drinks." The blends are brewed similar to the way espresso is, the company explains. The beverage was designed to offer the caffeinated properties of coffee without the jitters.
Building on the concept that details matter and the small things in life can bring joy, the food and beverage company has expanded its offerings. In addition to the signature concentrated teas, Teaspressa sells sugar cubes that can be used in tea or cocktails, as well as other beverage garnishes. The company also offers a tea subscription service, and its products can be found at major retailers such as Anthropologie.
Whether consumed plain, combined with milk, or dressed with a sugar cube, Teaspressa's tea can be personalized to anyone's preference. From the brewing method to taking the moment to sip and savor, that "C'est La Tea" mantra is about enjoying the experience, no matter how it comes to be.
How Teaspress founder Allison DeVane grew from the Shark Tank experience
While an influx of caffeine can make some people jittery, Allison DeVane nerves on "Shark Tank" weren't from the brew, but from her inexperience. But over the years, she honed her business plan and craft. Now, Teaspressa stands as a successful, woman-owned business.
During a November 2022 interview with Intuit, DeVane revealed that her mother inspired her to pursue her entrepreneurial dreams and "make something out of nothing." Although she found that being a woman in business can be intimidating, she needed to brew that confidence within herself. Even if working seven days a week was taxing, she never lost sight of her goals and was willing to push forward to achieve them. As she told her site's blog in 2017, she wants to pay forward the support and mentorship she's enjoyed over the years.
"Shark Tank" didn't end with a deal for DeVane, but she's still shaking up the beverage market. According to the Shark Tank Blog, Teaspressa's annual revenue is around $1 million.
