Where Is Fried Green Tomatoes From Shark Tank Today?
Sometimes, the simplest things in life offer the most satisfaction. That's definitely the philosophy behind entrepreneur and "food industry veteran" Holly Cooper, according to the Shark Tank Blog. In 2012, Cooper launched a wildly successful food truck where she sold southern culinary staples like po' boy sandwiches and fried green tomatoes. In addition to her other delicious offerings, customers visiting her food truck at various festivals and other events were mostly taken by the batter used on her fried green tomatoes, as well as the accompanying "secret sauce." After years of stellar word of mouth reviews, Cooper decided to package the batter and sauce mixes for retail purposes.
Cooper saw a lot of promise in her products, which eventually led to an appearance on Shark Tank. Her company Fried Green Tomatoes appeared on season 11, episode 21 of the reality TV series (via Shark Tank Global) and was met with a lot of enthusiasm. Host Barbara Corcoran was particularly excited, citing her previous experience with Cousins Maine Lobster as a factor. A former Shark Tank contestant, Cousins Maine Lobster credits Corcoran's involvement as "a mentor and business partner" a major part of its ongoing success, per the company website. Based on her track record, Cooper accepted Corcoran's offer of a 30% share in the company for a $200,000 investment.
The ups and downs of entrepreneurship
Despite Holly Cooper's acceptance of Corcoran's offer, there's no indication that a partnership has been struck. According to the Shark Tank Blog, the deal was never actually finalized. And based on the Fried Green Tomatoes website, it doesn't appear that the brand has branched out too far. Products are available for sale online, but there is no listing of stores that carry them. While the home base for the Fried Green Tomatoes food truck is Nashville, Tennessee, per CNBC, recent posts from the company's Instagram page list the latest food truck appearance taking place in Mount Juliet, Tennessee.
However, Cooper has experienced some positive developments thanks to her appearance. According to Farm Flavor, "Fried Green Tomatoes at the Whistle Stop Cafe" novelist Fannie Flagg reached out to Cooper via phone call after seeing her episode. Additionally, a recent tweet from business consultant Jeff Alexander hinted that a franchise partnership was in the works. However, a review of Alexander's LinkedIn profile features no mention of Cooper or Fried Green Tomatoes. Here's to hoping that Cooper will one day be able to capitalize on the steam generated by her appearance on Shark Tank.
