With the addition of 1 ingredient, rainbow sprinkles, these treats are the perfect festive dessert to celebrate the loved ones in your life. Carli says "I love to make these for my nieces and nephews on their birthdays. These are also ideal to bring to a coworker to celebrate at the office. They don't take a lot of time to prepare, but they look and taste great."
Gather your ingredients for birthday Rice Krispies treats
To make these birthday Rice Krispies treats, you can start by gathering your ingredients. For this recipe, you will need crispy rice cereal, rainbow sprinkles, unsalted butter, and mini marshmallows.
Mix the sprinkles into the cereal
In a large bowl, add the crispy rice cereal, and the sprinkles. Using a large spoon, stir the sprinkles into the cereal to evenly distribute. Carli also notes that "If you want, you can easily substitute any color of sprinkles here. Black and orange are great for Halloween, red and green are great for Christmas, etc."
Melt the butter and marshmallows
Place a saucepan over medium heat. Add the butter, let it melt, then add in the marshmallows. Stir the marshmallows continuously, while keeping the pan over medium heat. The marshmallows will begin to melt, and decrease in volume.
Form the Rice Krispies treats, and serve
Once the marshmallows have fully melted, pour them over the cereal and sprinkle mixture. Spray a silicone spatula with nonstick cooking spray, and working quickly, stir the melted marshmallows into the cereal, until combined. Then, add the mixture to a 9-x13-inch baking dish that has been sprayed with nonstick cooking spray, and firmly press the mixture into the baking dish to form a solid layer. Make sure to cool them completely before slicing, about 30 minutes.
