Cook Time:
1 hour, 15 minutes
Servings:
8 slices
Ingredients
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon nutmeg
  • 8 medium apples, peeled, cored, and sliced
  • 2 frozen pie crusts, thawed
  • 2 tablespoons butter, cut into small pieces
  • 1 egg yolk
Directions
  1. Preheat the oven to 375 F.
  2. Combine the sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a bowl.
  3. Add the apple slices to the flour mixture and use your hands to distribute everything until the apples are well coated.
  4. Roll out one uncooked pie crust and place it in the bottom of a deep 9-inch pie dish. (You may need a little flour so the pie crust doesn't stick.)
  5. Add the apple mixture and scatter the small pieces of butter over top.
  6. Cover the fruit with the second pie crust, crimping the edges with your thumb or a fork.
  7. Cut a few slits in the top crust to allow steam to vent.
  8. Brush the top with egg wash.
  9. Bake the pie at 375 F for the first 15 minutes.
  10. Reduce the heat to 350 F and continue baking for up to 1 hour, until the top is golden brown.
  11. Let the pie cool for 10 to 15 minutes before serving.
