The Cabin Dinner In Montana That Screams Holiday Wonderland

The holidays are often celebrated with good food. Whether it's turkey for Thanksgiving or a Christmas ham, food is an integral part of the festivities and traditions.

One resort in Big Sky, Montana is the ideal winter escape for the Christmas-obsessed. Lone Mountain Ranch began as a homestead in 1915 and had become a successful lodge where people spent their days hunting and fishing by the 1950s, per Food & Wine. In the 1970s, the ranch welcomed investors to stay as they planned developments for the town of Big Sky, which helped solidify its importance in the community.

Today, the lodge features 27 cabins for guests to stay in, and offers a variety of vacation packages with meal and activity plans attuned to every interest, according to its website. The resort offers a farm-to-table dining experience at its Horn & Cantle Restaurant, but it also has a special, winter-themed experiential dinner option for those looking to elevate their luxury mountain dining experience.

A unique experience for the holiday spirit

At Lone Mountain Ranch, guests can ride in a horse-drawn sleigh to the North Fork Cabin, where oil lanterns and a wood-burning stove set the ambiance for a rustic three-course meal (via Food & Wine). A singer-storyteller cowboy (either Bruce or Rick, per the restaurant's reservation website) also provides dinner entertainment during the entire dining experience.

The meal kicks off with shot glasses of honey moonshine before the food is brought out. Then to start, guests receive an appetizer of house-made rye bread with caraway seeds and "fresh butter." The second course consists of a group of dishes served family style and includes a plate of prime rib seasoned with a pepper and horseradish crust, as well as smoked turkey pot pie. Potato leek soup, mashed potatoes, and seasonal vegetables are served as side dishes. To finish off on a sweet note, diners can enjoy an apple huckleberry cobbler, served with ice cream.

From December through March, guests can reserve their immersive experience at the resort for $150 per person through the resort website.
