Here's What You Can Find At The World's Largest Albertsons
Albertsons has a humble history. According to KTVB7, founder Joe Albertson opened the first Albertsons store in 1939, in Boise, Idaho; the original location has seen the state capitol grow tenfold around it. As of 2021, "the chain stretches 34 states and Washington D.C., with more than 2,200 locations and employing more than 270,000 people," reports KTVB7.
But a few years ago, the grocery chain had some pretty big news — emphasis on "big." (No, we're not talking about its October deal with Kroger, a $25 billion affair that went down as one of the largest-ever American retail mergers, per CNN Business.) Back in 2019, Albertsons opened the doors of its largest-ever store — a far cry from the 10,000-square-foot area of the original (via 107.9 Lite FM).
Shoppers at the Meridian, Idaho location might be shocked by the staggering collection of products available for purchase. Just try not to get lost!
Fresh fish, pre-sliced produce, and pet supplies galore
If you're grocery shopping at the world's largest Albertsons, you won't have to worry about chopping, dicing, and slicing your veggies at home. Instead, you can simply fill a container in the pre-prepared produce aisle with the precise quantity of ingredients you need.
The store also has an impressive seafood section, which must be refreshing in the landlocked state of Idaho. According to 107.9 Lite FM, Albertsons Market Street's seafood section has "stuffed salmon fillets, lobster cakes, and 24 oz. lobster tails."
If you're hoping to do some shopping for a canine companion or a feline friend, this megastore has you covered, too. According to Idaho Wild, there are four aisles entirely devoted to pet care. The location also has DogSpot dog houses, which are pet-friendly pods that allow patrons to shop without leaving their pup in the car, per Progressive Grocer.
The world's largest Albertsons goes beyond traditional grocery store offerings
Though many grocery stores sell booze, few can claim to feature a wine cellar. But according to Idaho Wild, the Albertsons wine section holds the largest collection of wine bottles in the entire state of Idaho. The store even employs a sommelier to help you choose a bottle that pairs with whatever meal you're planning to make. (103.5 KISS FM adds that customers can also purchase a $720 bottle of Jay-Z's Champagne.)
Additionally, included within the walls of the sprawling store is a Nuts on Clark gourmet popcorn stand, per Supermarket News. The tasty treat chain offers a wide variety of sweet and savory snack options, from cheese corn to almond caramel corn.
Food and drink aside, your trip to the world's largest Albertsons might also come with a live music soundtrack, as YouTube creator The SolomonFamily pointed out.
