The CurderBurger Is Making A Triumphant Return To Culver's
In case you aren't aware, October 15 is National Cheese Curd Day. If you've ever enjoyed the squeak of a cheese curd against your teeth, you will understand why this dairy delicacy is worthy of this honor. For those of you who have yet to be formally introduced to this tiny nibble of goodness, here are some facts that will help you understand this regional treat.
While cheese curds are abundant in Wisconsin, some neighboring states, and Canada, there are many Americans who have never heard of them. If you want to take the mystery out of the cheese curd, Thrillist recommends thinking of them as cheese's baby brother. They are not only "unaged," but they are the byproduct of making "dense cheeses like Cheddar." In fact, as the demand for these tasty dairy infants has grown, some cheese producers have decided to focus solely on creating curds. In Canada, curds are a key ingredient of the perfect poutine, a concoction of french fries, fresh curds, and beef gravy (via Carlsbad Cravings). And don't worry about their audible squeaks — those curds can't feel a thing. Wisconsin Cheese explains that curds have two features that make them squeak when bitten. When our teeth come in contact with their slippery surface and we release the air trapped within, this noise follows.
Thanks to Culver's, fans of this young cheese product can now indulge in what may be described as "curd heaven." Meet the limited edition Curderburger.
The CurderBurger started as an April Fool's joke
On April 1, 2021, Culver's restaurant chain teased their customers' taste buds with the image of a giant cheese curd on a bun, but this April Fool's joke soon turned into a barrage of pleas from patrons asking the company to make this a real thing. On National Cheese Curd Day (October 15, 2021), the chain made cheesy dreams come true and offered the CurderBurger for just one day (per a press release). According to the Green Bay Gazette, Culver's sold a whopping 136,000 CurderBurgers on that solitary day, completely selling out. Thankfully, it is about to return.
So what is a CurderBurger? According to Culver's, it's a "gooey golden Wisconsin Cheese Curd Crown stacked on our signature Deluxe ButterBurger." You can wrap your mitts around one of these "cheese curd-crowned" offerings beginning on October 12. WGN9 adds that each Culver's location is expecting to receive "1000 curd-crowns" and expects to sell the CurderBurger until the end of October or until they run out. And it sounds like something you won't want to miss: When TMJ4 polled diners for their reaction to the CurderBurger, no one rated it lower than an eight out of ten.
