Your Italian Olive Oil May Be From Greece
Italian investigators have discovered that your fancy imported Italian olive oil may be adulterated with cheaper oil from Greece, Tunisia, Morocco, and Spain.
Sources say that four out of five bottles of Italian olive oil are unpure, and distributors are selling the fraudulent bottles not only to foreigners, but also to Italians.
The investigation by Italian customs service and police from the Guardia di Finanza has only just started, but sources claim the scandal involves "13 of the biggest olive oil producers."
Italy is reportedly Europe's second largest olive oil producer (following Spain), with the olive oil industry earning the country some five billion euros a year.
