After Breakup, Woman Moves Into KFC For A Week
After a breakup, sometimes what a person needs most is just some time and space to think things over. For one young woman in China, that space was a KFC, where she lived for a week after her boyfriend broke up with her.
According to Shanghaiist, 26-year-old Tan Shen had recently been dumped by her boyfriend and was looking for some comfort food when she initially stopped by the KFC near her house. She figured she would treat herself to some wings, but after a while she realized it was a pretty good place to think, and she didn't want to go home and be reminded of her boyfriend by all his things in her house.
"I hadn't planned on staying there long, I just wanted some chicken wings," Tan said. "But once I got in there and started eating I decided I needed time to think ... I didn't want to go back to my apartment because it was full of memories of him. So I stayed."
The KFC was a 24-hour location, so she didn't have to leave. She even called in sick to work so she could stay in the KFC and think. It actually took staff members several days to realize she was effectively living there. They multiple shift changes, so it was some time before anyone noticed her.
"I realized we had been serving her for the past three days and that she hadn't actually left," said KFC employee Li Lung. "When we asked her if she was ok, she said she was and just needed time to think. And then asked for another box of chicken wings with extra large fries."
After Tan had spent a week at the KFC, some media outlets came to report on the lonely woman who lived at KFC, and she decided it was time to leave. Tan said she plans on going back home to her parents.
"And I was getting sick of the taste of chicken so there was no point in staying there anymore," she said.
