What Celebrity Moms Want For Breakfast-In-Bed (Slideshow)
"I would love to have my husband Bill (host of Food Network's Kitchen Casino whip up his amazing pancakes or his steel cut oatmeal for me on Mother's Day. Our son, Duke, is a little young to cook on his own, of course, but he does like to get involved in the action and help dad."
— Giuliana Rancic, star of Giuliana & Bill on E!
Margaret Zakarian
"To be totally indulgent, a tray filled with freshly baked croissants, Debauve & Gallais chocolates, and a hot pot of rooibos tea would be perfection. Nothing beats acting like a kid with your kids. Oh, and I would definitely hope for a few of their favorite books on the tray as well so we could lay around and read together in bed."
— Margaret Zakarian, President of Domaine Enterprises and wife of Iron Chef Geoffrey Zakarian
Donatella Arpaia
"My perfect breakfast in bed would be scrambled eggs with black truffles, rustic Italian bread — grilled with amazing butter — great coffee, and freshly squeezed orange juice. Last year, my husband and son surprised me by using Alton Brown's recipe for scrambled eggs. It was such a nice surprise and the eggs were cooked perfectly!"
– Donatella Arpaia, Restaurateur, author, and television personality
Joy Bauer
"My kids know that I'd be happy with a tub of Greek yogurt topped with toasted pecans. But if they really want brownie points, an egg white omelette stuffed with tomato, onion, and fresh basil would be smashing!"
— Joy Bauer, M.S., RD, nutrition and health expert for NBC's TODAY Show and The New York Times
Alex Guarnaschelli
"My daughter is six years old. Her favorite thing to make is a poached egg. Somehow, she is bewildered every time when we break the egg into a bowl and gently lower it into slightly vinegar-ed simmering water and it emerges beautifully (and sometimes not so beautifully) poached. She always likes an egg with dry rye toast — she calls it "the oval toast." (I butter mine.) I am definitely going to request that she make me a couple poached eggs and some rye toast but it's far more fun for us to make this together. With a few more eggs on hand, I will just invite my mom over too!"
— Alex Guarnaschelli, executive chef of Butter Restaurant
Frankie Shaw
"Oh man, if Isaac (who is six) could bring me breakfast in bed, I would want homemade almond milk, freshly picked blackberries, and a breakfast bar made from cashew and dates that have been processed in a Vitamix and frozen over night."
– Frankie Shaw, actress currently starring in ABC's prime time show Mixology
Alison Sweeney
"One of my favorites has got to be our Sanov Family Oatmeal Pancakes. They're really yummy, healthy, and easy to make. I love them with fresh blueberries. And the best part is the kids do too!"
— Alison Sweeney, author of Scared Scriptless
Ellie Krieger
"I would love it if my daughter made me a good strong cup of coffee and brought it to me with my newspaper and a homemade card. Anything beyond that would be pure gravy... She does make a good scrambled egg, so perhaps that with some whole-grain sourdough toast and fresh strawberries."
— Ellie Krieger, New York Time bestselling author. Her recent book Weeknight Wonders is available now.
Eleni Gianopulos
"Breakfast in bed is a family affair in our house — which means kids, my husband Randall and our two dogs. My request would be delicious warm croissants from Payard, a steaming pot of coffee, and mixed fresh berries and bananas — something for everyone. This would all be enjoyed while lounging in bed and watching a great family classic such as Lassie — one of our favorites!"
– Eleni Gianopulos, CEO and Baker-in-Chief at Eleni's New York
Keri Glassman
"My favorite breakfast is always a really good vegetable-egg scramble with a hardy slice of yummy bread. BUT, since my kids are young, I am not sure I would want them cooking by themselves...So, instead I would love a slice of Ezekiel toast with melted cheddar, topped with sliced avocado, tomato, and a hard-boiled egg — I think they could handle this! But my man's got to help them with the coffee!"
— Keri Glassman, M.S., RD, CDN
Leeza Gibbons
"I'm lucky — my kids have often delivered breakfast in bed for Mother's Day. They know I love banana pancakes with a side of yogurt and mixed berries lightly sprinkled with granola! More than the food, I love that they pick a flower from the yard and write me homemade card! That's the key to my heart!! I keep them all and cherish each one."
– Leeza Gibbons, co-host of the syndicated news magazine America Now
Stephanie Ruhle
"My daughter is only a year old, but my boys (ages five and seven) love the kitchen. Mother's Day is the perfect excuse for them to treat themselves and me. They liken cooking to edible science experiments. Made to order omelettes will be on the menu. Using individual mason jars, they will crack three eggs (or egg whites), a splash of milk and then sprinkle in whatever cheese or vegetables each of us want. Then, screw on the jar lid EXTRA TIGHT, shake vigorously, and pour into a frying pan on low heat. Scramble it up or flip omelette style (my husband manning the stove). That way each of us get our own favorite ingredients and it's fun to make. We all love a good smoothie too — I love all vegetables — and the boys love watching the Vitamix demolish anything in its path. Whatever vegetables we have on hand, ice, and yogurt or coconut water and we'll all be drinking green monsters!"
– Stephanie Ruhle, managing editor and news anchor for Bloomberg Television
Karine Bakhoum
"Last year my daughter made me a brioche French toast cake with blueberries all by herself and brought it to me on a tray with flowers right up to my bed! It was amazing! She looked up the recipe on the Internet (but added the blueberries all on her own). This year maybe I will get a ham and Gruyère crêpe with black truffle butter or eggs Benedict with asparagus and black truffle hollandaise."
– Iron Chef America Judge Karine Bakhoum
Maria Sinskey
"My daughters, Ella and Lexi, are whizzes in the kitchen so for Mother's Day it would be a treat to have them whip up some of my favorite brunch items including buttermilk biscuits with homemade rhubarb compote, buckwheat crêpes with strawberries and crème fraîche, Oven-puffed pancakes with maple syrup and a coconut, almond, and cacao smoothie to wash it down. The cherry-on-top would be sharing this spread with Rob and the cooks themselves!"
- Maria Sinskey, 1996 Food & Wine Best New Chef and author of The Vineyard Kitchen of Robert Sinskey Vineyards
Susy Glick
"I'm hoping for a scaled-down version of a strawberry shortcake made from biscuits taken from The Writing Room. They can be mashed or crumbled up in a jar with sliced strawberries and fresh cream. Layered would be wonderful, as long as it's all clumped together by their little hands it will be delicious! Samson, my four-year-old, is my super talented cook in pre-training. He helps me in the kitchen every day. My Greyson, who is two and a half, is very eager to help and LOVES to eat, so they make a great team. I guess strawberries and cream is popular with the little ones, as this is the boys' favorite treat. It's easy for them to get into it and they have less chance of burning themselves."
- Susy Glick, co-owner of The Writing Room
Cristina Ferrare
"I don't like to eat in bed; it gets too crowded. I love to sleep in and then have breakfast with all my kids and grand-kids but Alexandra and Arianna (my daughters) do the cooking."
– Cristina Ferrare, host of Hallmark's Home and Family
