Flame by Burger King
Back in 2008, Burger King rolled out a men's body spray that was marketed as "the scent of seduction with a hint of flame-broiled meat." It's available exclusively online and at Ricky's, the New York-based chain of beauty/novelty shops, and is sold for $4 if you can find it (it sold like hotcakes and has been out of stock for a while now).
Que: Eau de Barbeque by Pork Barrel BBQ
Pork Barrel BBQ's award-winning sauce is regarded as some of the best in the country (we have a bottle of the stuff in our fridge as we speak), but their barbecue-scented fragrance probably won't be winning many accolades any time soon. It's "an intoxicating bouquet of spices, smoke, meat, and sweet summer sweat," according to the product description, and bottles can be purchased through their website for $24.95.
bac?n by Fargginay
The world's first bacon-scented cologne was released last year, but according to lore the recipe stretches back much further. "The year was 1920 and quite by accident John Fargginay, a Parisian butcher discovered the ability to dramatically elevate his customers' mood with a secret recipe blending 11 popular pure essential oils with the essence of... bacon," reads a note on the company's website. Bottles retail for $36, and come in two varieties, "Classic" and "Gold."
Sake by Fresh
We must admit, if there is one booze that you're going to smell like, you can do a lot worse than sake, the Japanese rice wine. Selling at Sephora (1 ounce costs $38), it's described as "rich and velvety," with a fragrance that's "sensually alluring."
Sandhills Suds
It's not in a spray bottle, but drink-scented soap is still certainly worth noting. Sandhills Suds produces lots of soaps, lotions, scrubs, and the like, but their most attention-grabbing products are the bars of soap scented like alcoholic beverages. What better way to start your day than by taking in the heady aroma of pumpkin lager, oatmeal stout, bordeaux, or a lime margarita?
Absynthe by Christian Lacroix
Yes, Virginia, there is a perfume that smells like absinthe. The notorious French potent potable has been transformed into a wearable elixir, although wearing it most likely won't summon the green fairy. Avon partnered with designer Christian Lacroix to develop this green concoction that really smells like absinthe, complete with notes of anise and hallucinatory fever dreams.
Champagne Sugar by Sula
Somebody had to do it: champagne-scented perfume. Susanne Lang has made a perfume that combines the smell of champagne with cotton candy, rose, and ginger. It's available through Sula's website for $16 per bottle.
Demeter Fragrances
No roundup of food-scented perfume is complete without a mention of Demeter Fragrances, producers of some of the most far-out scents we've ever encountered. Where to begin? Mesquite, parsley, popcorn, rye bread, string beans, tomatoes, bourbon, waffles, lobster, fiery curry, and even sushi are some of their more bizarre food and drink scents, and we haven't even mentioned the non-food-scented ones (think crayon, dirt, hay, funeral home, glue, mahogany, and paint). Not sure if they're supposed to scent a room or a wrist, but there's nothing wrong with smelling like you just spent the past six hours in a Waffle House!
