Dine In The Trees At These 9 Restaurants Around The World Slideshow
No matter where you are in the world, trees seem to bring a degree of peace, and when you combine that with the perfect meal it can add up to a few hours of unparalleled contentment. Restaurants around the world are capitalizing on their surroundings, whether they're nestled in lush forests or actually perched in the trees.
Norwood's Restaurant and Wine Shop (New Smyrna Beach, Fla.)
Norwood's has a new treehouse bar connected to its downstairs restaurant, and it's situated halfway up a thick tree with twisting branches. There's also outdoor seating on wide deck so you can toast with a specialty wine amidst the leaves, or lunch on their Woods Burger, with caramelized onion, goat cheese, and arugula. Added plus: the restaurant makes all its sauces and salad dressings from scratch.
The Redwoods Treehouse (Auckland, New Zealand)
This unique yellow treehouse resembles a seashell or cocoon, measures over 39 feet tall. Made from sustainably grown pine and poplar, it was built in 66 days as part of a marketing campaign and is now available for private hire; three catering options are available. You can't make casual restaurant reservations, but the venue is open for private dining, work parties, and other celebrations.
Ristorante il Geranio (Capri)
This island getaway serves Neapolitan and other Mediterranean cuisine based on local seafood, meat, and vegetables. It's nestled in the treetops with a view of calm blue water and massive rocks emerging from the ocean. Pine trees shade the open-air tables, and evening candles complete the recipe for a unique and special night out.
The Rock (Michamvi Pingue, Zanzibar)
This restaurant is cozied up amongst the trees, and it's definitely elevated — but the trees are few on this island, a small rock off the coast of Zanzibar, and the elevation is due to the height of the island itself. An open-air hut, The Rock serves a selection of beer and wine, and some premium menu selections include crab salad with avocado and fresh tomatoes, homemade tagliatelle pasta with lobster, and squid with queen prawns.
Soneva Kiri Resort’s Treepod (Ko Kut, Thailand)
Thailand's Soneva Kiri Resort offers multiple perks, but dining in the Treepod is undoubtedly one of the most unusual. Eat in a sleek bamboo pod lifted high in the Koh Kood rainforest as your waiter ziplines to bring you Thai specialties sourced from the resort's organic gardens. Up to four diners can enjoy this attraction at one time. Added plus: a beachfront view.
The Treehouse (Nashville)
This treehouse evokes imagery of what Tom and Huck's might have looked like. With almost every plank painted with a different color or design, the restaurant is unique from the outside in. And since it's true to Nashville, the treehouse restaurant website also has an oft-updated playlist of new current favorites. Expand your palate with catfish salad or pan-roasted eggplant among the branches.
Treehouse Restaurant at Anse Chastanet Resort (St. Lucia)
Roaring log fire? Check. Strings of white lights? Check. Locally-inspired dishes? Check. This treehouse restaurant is made from sustainably sourced wood, has wobbly rope bridges and looks straight out of a fairy tale. Dine on thyme-infused risotto and pan-fried turbot while your kids enjoy garlic bread and fish bites.
The Tree Room at Sundance Mountain Resort (Sundance, Utah)
This Utah resort was founded in 1969 by Robert Redford and sits on 5,000 acres of wilderness. You can feel like a small part of it by dining in the Tree Room amongst trees growing right up through the restaurant floor, candlelight, and Native American artwork straight out of Robert Redford's private collection. Our picks to order include the Sundance salad and the Tree Room pepper steak, served with buttermilk mashed potatoes and mango chutney.
