Texas Barbecue Week Celebrates Texan BBQ Restaurants
Many cities host restaurant weeks to feature various restaurants around town, but Texas is putting their spin on the popular event this July with their very own Barbecue Week. The event is statewide, and during the week long celebration of true Texas BBQ people can visit participating barbecue joints for a "Texas Barbecue Week plate," a meal in honor of the week prepared by each restaurant featuring some of their best meats and sides.
The event is a way to support chefs and restaurant workers who are preserving barbecue tradition while enjoy some of the state's best meat. Over 50 restaurants around the state are participating in the event.
Texas Monthly is partnering with Foodways Texas as the beneficiary of the event. Foodways Texas works to preserve, promote, and celebrate the diverse cultures in Texas, and each restaurant will make a donation for every plate sold. Texas Monthly will make an additional donation to Foodways Texas based on the total amount raised at the end of the week.
Each restaurant's "Barbecue Week plate" is different. In Houston, check out Ray's BBQ Shack which is offering the four meat plate with choice of ribs, beef, sausage, chicken, or rib tips plus two sides. The other Houston restaurant participating is Virgie's Bar-B-Que, offering a half rack baby back ribs and two sides.
The July is currently in progress, running from July 15th to the 19th. For more information on the event, check out the website.
