Sandwich Of The Week: Tender Greens' Herb Brushed Albacore Sandwich
Tender Greens serves a variety of salads, soups, and sandwiches, and one of their highlights is the herb brushed albacore sandwich. The restaurant, with locations throughout San Diego, Los Angeles, the Bay Area, and Orange County, focuses on locally sourced ingredients. Their albacore sandwich is an example of what they call "slow food done fast."
Chunks of albacore tuna, which are sustainably line caught from the Pacific, are brushed with herbs and seared on the grill. The albacore is served rare on ciabatta, which is baked in an artisan bakery, and sprinkled with sea salt, lemon, and olive oil. The sandwich comes with roasted red peppers and aioli, the standard fillings for most sandwiches at Tender Greens. Like the other sandwiches on the menu, the albacore sandwich comes with a side of simple salad, with choices such as romaine hearts, baby spinach, arugula, and more.
The other grilled dishes, like the chipotle barbecue chicken, fried chicken, or backyard marinated steak, could also be ordered as a sandwich. These sandwiches, especially the albacore tuna, keep diners coming back.
