Paris Starbucks Charged With Putting Racist Drawings On Drinks
In today's awfulness, one Reddit user has taken to the Internet to blast a Parisian Starbucks for an offensive caricature drawn on a drink order.
Instead of asking for the customer's name, Reddit user gsruff wrote, the barista drew the "chink eye" to identify them. What's worse, is that this isn't the first time the offensive caricature has been seen on a Starbucks cup. Back in February, a similar incident occured at a Georgia location to two Korean-American customers. The customers complained, reports the blogger behind Angry Asian Man, and got an apology (and free gift card) from the manager.
At that time, Starbucks responded with a statement: "Starbucks does not tolerate discrimination of any kind and has a lengthy history of leading on and supporting policies that promote equality, inclusion and diversity. We were disappointed to hear of the poor experience this customer had in our store and have apologized to him several times. This experience is unacceptable and not indicative of the welcoming and respectful service we strive to offer our customers in our stores." Starbucks also noted the "partner" was no longer with the company.
Papa John's is also no stranger to the "chink eyes" debacle, after a customer Tweeted a picture of a receipt named "lady chink eyes." Papa John's also apologized; will the Paris headquarters of Starbucks respond similarly?
