Chefs Enrique Olvera And Carlos Salgado Team Up To Celebrate The Cape's First Anniversary

Enrique Olvera, of Pujol, Cosme, and executive chef of Manta at The Cape, a Thompson Hotel; and Carlos Salgado, chef–owner of critically-acclaimed Taco María in Costa Mesa, California, a 2015 Food & Wine Best New Chef and James Beard Award semifinalist for Best Chef: West; are celebrating the hotel's one year anniversary with a series of "Baja-inspired culinary events." The festivities take place throughout the Los Cabos resort July 1-2.

The first event takes place at Manta, The Cape's signature restaurant, where chefs Salgado and Olvera will lead an intimate cooking demonstration highlighting the most popular dishes from Taco María and Manta. Guests will be able to interact with the chefs, sample demo dishes, and drink cocktails prepared by the bar team at Manta.

That night, Salgado, Olvera, and Alex Branch, chef de cuisine at Manta, will host a sunset Tiki party at Monuments Beach, complete with live music. The chefs will grill local seafood and roast a whole pig, and The Cape's beverage director Osvaldo Vazquez will be mixing Tiki-inspired cocktails.

The next day, on July 2, Olvera and Salgado will debut a one night only prix fixe menu at Manta, which will highlight the chefs' "complementary, yet distinct, takes on Mexican cuisine." Beverage pairings courtesy of Vazquez include wine, sake, and cocktails.

The weekend of celebration culminates in an anniversary party on The Rooftop, Cabo San Lucas' only rooftop lounge. Guests will enjoy specialty cocktails and bits inspired by Taco María and The Cape as well as beats from DJ Capri and DJ Cyril accompanied by a synchronized fireworks show.

The events are open to hotel guests and the public, and reservations are requested. Email mantareservations@thompsonhotels.com or call 011.52.624.163.0000 for dining reservations.
