Modernist Cuisine Releasing Photography Book
Modernist Cuisine's Nathan Myhrvold has just announced their third book, although this time, there won't be any recipes.
The third book from the Modernist Cuisine team will be a photography book, with 399 photos compiled into The Photography of Modernist Cuisine. "I started thinking more seriously about the hundreds of thousands of photos that my team and I have made and collected over the years," Myhrvold wrote on their blog. "I decided to showcase them in a new way by creating a book dedicated to the images themselves."
Of the 399 photos, 161 will be printed full-bleed across one or two full pages, sans captions or backstories. Instead, a chapter in the back will showcase stories behind the phtoos, including how to coax crystals of vitamin C out, or how to microwave fresh herbs.
Another chapter will be devoted to how the team created these images, cutting kettle grills in half or levitating burgers, as well as giving photography tips for amateur food pornographers. So while you may learn how to take a killer photo with a point and shoot, you won't be getting any recipes out of it. "This is a photo book. If you'd like to try our recipes — and we hope you will — please check out our other books," Myrvhold writes. So coffee table book it is.
