Lay's Announces The 'Do Us A Flavor' Contest Winner
It's been a few months since Lay's potato chips, with the help of actress Eva Longoria and chef Michael Symon, announced that their Do Us a Flavor contest had been narrowed down to three flavor finalists: Sriracha, Chicken & Waffles, and Cheesy Garlic Bread. The country got to sample all three flavors via a limited-edition release and cast their vote for their favorite online via Facebook, and last night the winner was announced: cheesy garlic bread.
The brains behind the flavor, Wisconsin's Karen Weber-Mendham (who initially suggested the flavor to Lay's), was feted last night at Hollywood's Beso Restaurant, which is owned by Longoria.
Mendham will win $1 million for her contribution, or 1 percent of all sales (whichever is higher). The runners-up, Christina Abu-Judom from Phoenix (who submitted Chicken & Waffles) and Tyler Raineri from Lake Zurich, Ill. (who submitted Sriracha) were also at the event — everyone entered via red carpet, of course — and they each went home with a check for $50,000. Not a bad deal!
While none of the flavors were bad, the Cheesy Garlic Bread was a favorite when we did our taste test, and certainly has lots of cheesy and garlic flavor.
