Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams Expanding To Chicago

Good news, Chicago friends: The Daily Meal ice cream favorite Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams (holing up in Ohio and Tennessee) is now expanding to its first Chicago storefront.

DNAinfo reports that the artisanal ice cream shop will be making its first Illinois expansion at 3404 N. Southport Ave. in the Lakeview neighborhood of Chicago. The space used to be a coffee shop Safari Cup. Jeni's, although small, is known for amazing flavor combos like sweet potato and marshmallows and the recent Gatsby-themed flavors like "Loveless Biscuits and Peach Jam" and cognac and marmalade.

"I grew up in Illinois and have always dreamed of having a shop there," owner Jeni Britton Bauer said in a press release. "We are thrilled to be joining the amazing Chicago food scene, which simply can't be topped."

The opening date is slated for August, which means Chicagoans will be able to buy pints and scoops of Jeni's just in time for the best summer months and warm fall days. We can't say we're not jealous, as we hoard our pints of brown butter almond brittle from Jeni's and patiently wait for a New York store. Thankfully, they ship.
