How Much Caffeine Is In Your Cup?
With this news and the results of our iced coffee taste test, your morning coffee decision can be a calculated choice.
Using the Center for Science in the Public Interest's data, Thrillist released the graphic shown here measuring the amount of caffeine in each cup of nationwide coffee chains' brews. The data shows that the milligrams of caffeine per fluid ounce varies from chain to chain. McDonalds has 9.1 milligrams per fluid ounce, while Starbucks has 20.6 milligrams per fluid ounce. Dunkin' Donuts fell in between the two at 12.7 milligrams per fluid ounce.
According to the Mayo Clinic, the average cup of brewed coffee has about 95 to 200 milligrams of caffeine (that's 16-34 milligrams per fluid ounce for an average cup of joe). According to another Mayo Clinic source, for most healthy adults, moderate does of caffeine would range between 200 to 300 milligrams daily, the equivalent of two to four cups. Results of too much caffeine include insomnia, nervousness, irritability, upset stomach, and muscle tremors.
If you're a McDonald's fan and are still feeling a bit groggy in the morning, perhaps it's time to ask for a Deathwish.
