Although eating too few calories or being underweight can cause you to have a low body temperature, nutrient deficiency plays a role in how you feel. For many people, this is due to iron deficiency. Iron deficiency happens to be the most common form of nutritional deficiency, according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention. Many vegans and vegetarians experience this because both meat and eggs are great sources of iron. Iron helps your red blood cells carry oxygen throughout the body, which brings heat and other nutrients to the cells in your body, according to Holly Phillips, MD.
Beyond meat and eggs, iron can also be found in leafy greens, seafood, whole grains, nuts, beans, and tofu. If you are always cold, you may way to try incorporating more of these foods into your diet and that way, you can feel more comfortable as winter comes along.
