Glenfarclas 25 Year Old Single Malt Impresses
Glenfarclas 25 Year Old Single Malt Highland Scotch, SRP $150.
Glenfarclas has been owned by a single family since 1865. This Speyside distillery is in fact one of a small handful in Scotland that remains family owned and run. They're a fairly small company with just more than 30 people employed in their entire operation. Several of these employees have been with them for more than 25 years. They run a 24 hour operation which among other things manages 52,000 casks at varying states of maturity; these are all moved by hand. I recently tasted the Glenfarclas 25 Year Old Single Malt Highland Scotch.
The Glenfarclas 25 Year Old Single Malt Highland Scotch was produced using their traditional methods. Only three ingredients, spring water, malted barley and yeast are used to produce Glenfarclas. Aging was accomplished in a combination of traditional whisky cask as well as previously used Sherry barrels. This 25 year old Scotch has a big nose that simply brims with enticing aromas such as sweet apricot, hazelnut and gentle wisps of smoke. From the first sip the very last the palate is a knockout; it impresses with incredible depth and richness. The flavors of apricot, toffee, almonds and spice are opulent and pure. The Glenfarcas 25 has remarkable length and persistence of finish with copious spices such as pepper, bits of yeast and hints of caramel. This prodigious finish kept reverberating at the back of my throat long after I had swallowed the final sip.
In short this Scotch is intense, impressive and simply wonderful. This is a fantastic expression of an older Single Malt Scotch that everyone who loves great whisky should be angling to get their hands on. Do whatever you have to, but definitely grab yourself a bottle of Glenfarclas 25 Year Old Single Malt if you can. When talking top shelf spirits, this expression from Glenfarclas has to be in the conversation. It will be a wonderful addition to your bar.
