Food Of The Future At SXSW: A Round-Up
Even if you aren't lucky enough to attend the infamous South by Southwest music, tech and more festival this week in Austin, Texas, we have the lowdown on the food panels, events, and gadgets that could seriously change the future of how we eat.
The Watson Supercomputer is Now a Chef — Remember when Jeopardy was pitting genius contestants against the IBM supercomputer named Watson? Well now Watson is working in food, and has been upgraded with over 35,000 recipes, according to local ABC station KVUE. The food truck equipped with Watson will be in downtown Austin near a host of other food trucks.
Future Foods: Cuisine for a New Age — You can learn all about the future of food- from 3-D printing, to lab-made meat and robot smart chefs at a panel taking place on March 11th.
Some Serious Food Trucks — Explore all the food trucks at SXSW, from Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams are literally made from the ground up, starting with milk from their own cows. Mickelthwait Craft Meats combines awesome barbeque with theater (historic re-enactments).
Rachael Ray's Feedback — March 15th marks the date of one of the biggest food and music parties in Austin. This year's lineup features CeeLo Green and Blondie, as well as Park's Finest™ hot dogs (Cracked Dijon Mustard Frankfurter with Kimchi Chow Chow), and Gourdough's artisan doughnuts.
Insects are the Future of Food — At this panel on March 11th, Tiny Farms will be discussing the looming food crisis as protein sources are snatched up. So, where to next? Well, obviously we'll go with eating bugs.
