Taco Bell Serving 'FirstMeal' Breakfasts

Taco Bell doesn't want to be just a late night pit stop anymore. The OC Register reports that next week, the chain will debut a breakfast menu in 750 restuarants.

"FirstMeal" items include Cinnabon Delights, breakfast burritos, Johnsonville sausage, and Seattle's Best Coffee. Healthier alternatives include oatmeal and yogurt parfaits. According to Chicago-based market research firm Technomic Inc., breakfast accounts for around 12 percent of total restaurant industry sales, generating about $42 billion annually.

And, in efforts to appeal to the upscale Chipotle Mexican Grill demographic, Taco Bell is currently testing its chef inspired "Cantina Bell" menu of marinated chicken, black beans, cilantro rice, and grilled corn salsa.

Coming off last year's beef controversy and a sales slump, the chain hopes to have 5,800 restaurants serving breakfast by 2014.
