Fast-Food Chains Sell More Breakfast Soft Drinks
Remember that wonderous sign at Taco Bell promoting the "breakfast cocktail," a Mountain Dew and orange juice drink? Turns out, Taco Bell isn't the only fast-food joint promoting soda drinks in the morning.
As USA Today reports, Steak 'n Shake and Sonic are also getting in on the morning soda deals. And it's surprisingly profitable: as one researcher, NPD Group/CREST reported, sales from morning soft drinks rose 3 percent in the last year.
So what else are these restaurants offering, besides the "breakfast cocktail"? At Steak 'n Shake, you can get a free breakfast taco when you purchase a 28-ounce Coke between 6 a.m. and 11 a.m. for a limited time; at certain Sonic locations, the "morning drink stop," you can get a $0.99 fountain drink. And who can forget Taco Bell's classic combo of Mountain Dew and OJ? Said Taco Bell spokesman Rob Poetsch about the drink, the offering is "in response to consumer demand."
