Where To Treat Mom In Washington DC On Mother's Day 2016

Taking Mom out to the local joint for Mother's Day brunch is akin to giving Dad a tie for Father's Day; the gesture is appreciated, though not very creative. Show her you really care and find the right place to celebrate her big day. Make this Sunday her best Mother's Day yet! Does Mom really dig a cold brew? Does she appreciate a dining room with a view? Or alternatively, does she simply want to relax and enjoy the springtime breezes? If you still don't know where to take your Mom, don't worry ― we've compiled an eclectic list of places to consider for brunch, beer, lunch, or dinner.

Read on to find out where we think you should go for Mother's Day.

Note: Unless otherwise noted, prices do not include beverages, tax, or gratuity. Please verify the menu and pricing when you make your reservation.

3 Stars Brewing
If your mom is a free spirit who appreciates different cultures, then take her to 3 Stars Brewing for its unique Mother's Day event called Belly Dance at the Brewery. International belly dancing instructor Belladonna will be leading an hour-long class created for mother-daughter duos, though all are welcome to participate. The class runs from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and after class, students will raise a toast to their new found belly dancing skills over, what else, a complimentary pint of locally brewed beer. The cost is $18 per person. Class begins at 11:00 am. Purchase tickets online or arrive early.

CoCo Sala
The evidence is anecdotal, but we think the majority of chocoholics out there are women and chances are your mom is one of them. If so, take her to CoCo Sala, a restaurant that celebrates chocolate in all its forms. Its offering a special Mother's Day prix-fixe dinner menu that features not only a four-course meal, but also flowers and chocolate surprises just for mom. The meal begins with a four-cheese fritter appetizer complete with a chipotle chocolate drizzling sauce and only gets better from there. Your mom will get a kick out of the dinner's grand finale too; it's a huge display of diverse sweet and savory chocolate dishes. Dinner service begins at 5 p.m. and the price is $45 for adults, $25 for children. Reservations are highly recommended.

Equinox
Is your Mom a vegan? Chef Todd Gray's Market Vegan Brunch at Equinox hasn't forgotten that vegans enjoy good food too and its brunch menu features vegan local and sustainable ingredients, as well as a creative tofu station that includes bespoke dishes . Enjoy Sunday brunch from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for $35 for adults and $15 for children under 12.

Flying Dog Brewery
If Mom is a beer connoisseur, head north to Frederick, Maryland and spend the day at one of our region's first craft breweries: Flying Dog Brewery. The brewery is hosting an afternoon of discounted tasting this Mother's day from noon to 6 p.m. with two specials. Buy mom a flight, get your first beer for $1.00 or you can buy a screw top growler with a fill for $10 and get the second one for $5. With unique craft beers such as the Fever Dream, a mango habanero IPA, and the citrusy Bloodline Blood Orange ale, your Mom will be in beer heaven.

Kennedy Center
Culture is cool and if your mom wants to dress up and dine in a refined restaurant, head to a place that hosts the finest theatrical performances in the country, The Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. Its Roof Terrace Restaurant serves a mean Mother's Day brunch that lets you take in some of the best views of the city. Their prix-fixe brunch is offered from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is $45 per person. Reservations are recommended.

Ocopa
For an authentic taste of Peru head over to Ocopa on H Street for its special three-course prix-fixe Mother's Day brunch menu or choose from the regular brunch menu; it's ladies' choice. The prix-fixe menu is $45 or $55 with bottomless mimosas, and $65 for with bottomless craft mimosas. Head over on May 8 and dine from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Red Derby
If Mom wants to unwind and enjoy a low-key Mother's Day, she doesn't need bells and whistles to celebrate, just a comfy bar stool, reasonably priced beer, good tunes, and a relaxed vibe. Take her to Red Derby and she can drink and be merry with $3 Bloody Marys and "Make Your Own Mimosas" for $15 until 9 p.m.

Shake Shack
This Mother's Day forgo the chocolates for Mom and opt for a different kind of sweet treat: free custard at Shake Shack. On Sunday Moms that stop by any DC, Maryland, or Virginia Shake Shack will receive a free custard. She can choose from one of the classic flavors or try out the special flavor of the week, Oatmeal Crème Pie.

Spirit Cruises
For the ultimate relaxing gift, let Mom glide along the Potomac River and watch the world go by on a Spirit Cruise jaunt on the Spirit of Washington. The cruise is offering brunch, an afternoon meal, and dinner; moreover, upon boarding, Mom is presented with a complimentary spring flower, soda, mimosa, or juice. Of course, there's also a grand buffet and a DJ spinning tunes.
