New York And Philadelphia Chefs Share Top Honors At NYC Wine & Food Festival's Chicken Coupe

With chicken this good they couldn't pick just one winner. Whoopi Goldberg challenged chefs to make their best fried chicken dish at the 2015 New York Food and Wine Festival's Chicken Coupe. When all the chicken was eaten and the votes were counted, the chicken sandwiches by Pies 'n Thighs (Chicken Biscuit with buttermilk-marinated fried chicken breast on a biscuit with honey butter and hot sauce) and Philadelphia's Federal Donuts (fried chicken in a potato roll with american cheese) were so good, and so equal, that nothing could break the tie.

These standout sandwiches took top honors amid formidable competition. Last year's winner Queens Comfort was on hand with Cinnamon Toast Crunch Chicken Fingers topped with Bourbon Maple Syrup. Their staff also represented respectably on the dance floor with a chicken head costume (of course). Genuine Superette + Roadside's Buttermilk-Battered Chicken Sandwich with apple celeriac slaw and sambal mayo and Root & Bone's Shrimp and Bacon-Stuffed Chicken Wings were offered unique twists on these classic dishes.

The charity event raised money to end hunger in New York City and supported Food Bank For New York City and Share Our Strength's No Kid Hungry® campaign.
