5 Dishes You Should Never Order From A Chinese Restaurant

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to know that the majority of menu items at Chinese restaurants are diet-busters. Chinese food (or the kind we're accustomed to in America, at least) is loaded with oil, salt, and sugar, and lots of it also deep-fried.  If you're trying to eat healthy at a Chinese restaurant, we suggest you order steamed chicken and vegetables with a light sauce, and stay away from these five options.

General Tso's or Sesame Chicken
To make these popular dishes, dark-meat chicken is battered and deep-fried, then tossed with a sauce that's super salty and sweeter than candy.

Orange Beef
Same deal for the orange beef, except it's deep-fried chunks of beef instead of chicken, which only serves to boost the calorie count.

Lo Mein
Eating a serving of lo mein is like downing a big bowl of pasta that's been tossed with a tablespoon of salt, a tablespoon of sugar, and a huge glug of oil.

Egg Rolls
Egg rolls are clearly incredibly unhealthy thanks to then being deep-fried, but if the oil isn't hot enough they can be rendered super greasy. The filling also usually contains ground pork, which can also be extra fatty.

Spare Ribs
Those spare ribs might seem like a fun appetizer, but if you've ever eaten at a barbecue restaurant you know just how fatty they can be. The addition of a salty-and-sweet glaze (and the deep-frying cooking method) only boosts the calorie count and sodium level.
