Dunkin' Donuts Locations: How Many Dunkin' Donuts Are There?
Dunkin' Donuts is so ubiquitous these days (especially with new locations opening in California), that it's difficult to imagine that once upon a time the chain was a fledgling startup just like any other. Nowadays it's officially a quick-service behemoth, but exactly how many locations are there worldwide?
The original Dunkin' Donuts, which opened in Quincy, Mass. in 1950, was an immediate success, and it took only five years before others expressed an interest in franchising. By 1963 the chain had expanded to 100 locations, 1,000 locations were open by 1979, 2,000 in 1990, and 3,000 by 1992. By the end of 2011, there were more than 10,000 locations open worldwide, and today there are nearly 11,000 locations worldwide. Dunkin' Donuts doesn't make its most current numbers available, but that's a whole lot of locations.
For comparison's sake, it actually pales in comparison to McDonald's worldwide locations; that chain has a whopping 35,000! And Subway is right behind them, with 34,000 locations in more than 90 countries.
