8 Drinks That Will Ruin Your Beach Body (Slideshow)
Baskin Robbins Cappuccino Blast Mocha, Dunkin Donuts Frozen Coffee Coolattas, Starbucks Frappuccinos; all of these sugary coffee drinks are loaded with calories and sugar, and can cause dehydration. Overloading on sugar, cream, and artificially flavored syrups can not only cause weight gain, but also ruin skin and hair by depleting the body's essential nutrients.
Processed, Commercial Juices
Juices are also chock-full of sugar, even the ones you may think are natural. Brands like Simply Orange call themselves "not from concentrate," which is accurate, but doesn't really mean what you might think — these juices often have their oxygen removed and then sit in gigantic vats, sometimes for up to a year, where they turn into a colorless sludge. Later, they're brought back to life, so to speak, with orange-scented flavor packs. Not a healthy choice.
Milk
Dairy products also rank among the worst drinks to consume if you're trying to get into beach-body shape. Besides the bloating from lactose intolerance, even skim milk can cause weight gain. Contrary to popular belief, just ristricting fat and calories actually doesn't make for a lean body. You need some fat in foods to allow the feeling of satiety to occur and for sugars to be processed properly. Speaking of which, skim milk is packed full of unnecessary sugars.
Energy Drinks
That includes everything from Vitamin Water to Monster. Packed with loads of sugar, you're basically drinking doughnuts when you ingest drinks like these.
Sports Drinks
Gatorade, Powerade, it doesn't matter which brand: all of these are counterproductive due to the artificial colorings and sweeteners. They are actually guilty of causing increased acidity in the body along with bloating and weight gain, not to mention the potential carcinogenic effects.
Slushies
While the call of frozen drinks in the summer can be like a siren song, drinks like Slurpees and Icees are really just flash-frozen soda pops. No high-sugar drinks will ever be thirst quenchers. Instead, they cause the opposite effect since more water is needed to process all the sugar that is dumped into the body.
Beer
As tempting as it is to cool off with a cold beer, go easy there. They don't call it a "beer belly" for nothing. Beer is usually high in carbs, which can also lead to weight gain in disproportionate amounts.
Wine Coolers
Unlike regular wine, flavored wine coolers like Seagram's Escapes are terribly high in sugar. If you're going to drink, keep your alcohol intake moderate: studies have shown an increase in abdominal obesity with regular overconsumption of alcoholic beverages. Pass me a Skinny Margarita, please!
