5 Refreshing Mexican Beers Slideshow
A German-style pilsener that's made by the same producers of Dos Equis, Sol, and Tecate, the Bohemia is a lighter lager that isn't lacking in complexity. Much of the complaints surrounding Mexican beers are that they're brewed weakly, something that can't be said about Bohemia. With a strong malt backbone, a hop presence, and just a touch of citrus bitterness, it's a Mexican beer to drink long after the Cinco de Mayo party hats (and margs) disappear.
Taco Pairing: Shrimp tacos with avocado and mango salsa has the right amount of sweetness, spiciness, and creaminess to balance out this beer.
Dos Equis XX Amber
The Dos Equis lager may not be to everyone's taste, but the amber is worth seeking out. The Oktoberfest-style Vienna lager is light-bodied with the right balance of hops and malts, making it an easy-to-drink beer choice that doesn't skimp on flavor.
Taco Pairing: A robust beer deserves a robust taco. A spicy chorizo and poblano taco will do the trick, thanks to its bold red pepper flakes, cilantro, and obviously, poblano chiles.
Negra Modelo
You've likely seen Modelo at the bars, but Negra Modelo is the premium step-up beer. The top-selling dark beer in Mexico, the German-dunkel style beer is a much darker beer than any other you'll find on our list. That means more toasted malt and earthy characters, sweet caramel, and even hints of coffee bitterness that round out the brew. The Negra Modelo stands out in a sea of lagers, for sure.

Pacifico
Pacifico is most often considered a step up from Corona and Tecate — a blonde lager that does the trick. It's 4.4 percent ABV, making it another sessionable beer on our list with light malts and hops.
Taco Pairing: A Baja-style tempura fish taco has bold flavors, perfect for a light-drinking beer.
Victoria
Victoria is Mexico's oldest beer brand, after being acquired by Grupo Modelo in 1935. The 4 percent ABV beer is another Vienna-style lager, but this one has a touch more sweetness and toasted malt character than other Mexican beers.
Taco Pairing: A bison sausage taco, made the traditional Mexican way, is just what's needed for this sweet, light lager.
