Dine Like The U.S. President On The Road Slideshow

Corner Kitchen (Asheville, N.C.)

Before President Barack Obama visited Corner Kitchen in Asheville, N.C., an "advance team" called ahead to make a reservation for six. An aide told the restaurant he was going to ask his girlfriend to marry him and requested a private room. The party of six that arrived was Mr. and Mrs. Obama and four of their friends. After ordering corn and crab chowder, mahimahi, baby arugula salad, a fried oyster appetizer, lobster tail, pork chops, and a soufflé, a member of the president's staff went to the kitchen to watch the cook prepare the meal and tasted the food before it was served.

12 Bones Smokehouse (Asheville, N.C.)

When President Barack Obama visited 12 Bones Smokehouse with his wife Michelle, he insisted on going unannounced, standing in line, and paying cash. He ordered barbecue ribs with blueberry chipotle barbecue sauce.

Tex-Mex-Chex

While former President George W. Bush enjoyed eating out, his aides always had a stash of his favorite snack, Tex-Mex Chex. His aides joke that there were always two things within 10 feet of the president at all times: the nuclear football and a bag of Tex-Mex Chex. White House chef Walter Scheib prepared the snack of Chex cereal with hot sauce, pretzels, pistachios, and Mexican pumpkin seeds.

Espresso Love (Martha’s Vineyard, Mass.)

The Clinton family often vacationed on Martha's Vineyard, where they enjoyed the Presidential Muffin at Espresso Love. Former President Bill Clinton enjoyed the red, white, and blue treat (cream cheese, blueberry, and strawberry) so much that he took it to peace talks with Irish officials.

Mad Martha’s (Martha’s Vineyard)

Another Clinton family favorite spot for sweet treats is Mad Martha's, where Chelsea liked to order mocha chip yogurt and former President Clinton ordered orange pineapple ice cream.

Pat’s King of Steaks (Philadelphia)

When he's in the City of Brotherly Love, President Obama likes to stop at Pat's King of Steaks, the same place where John Kerry solidified his reputation by some for being out of touch when he famously ordered his cheesesteak with Swiss cheese.

Il Mulino (New York City)

When former President Bill Clinton and President Barack Obama decided to dine together at Il Mulino in Greenwich Village, the restaurant was shut down and the maître d' wore a special pin given by the Secret Service to show he had been cleared to approach the president. Clinton ordered the fresh pasta with shrimp while Obama dined on broiled whole branzino, a Mediterranean sea bass.

Equinox (Washington, D.C.)

Former President George H.W. Bush and Barbara Bush often enjoyed dining at chef Todd Gray's Equinox , which serves classic regional American comfort food.
