Customers Leave Anti-Immigrant Note Instead Of Tip

Restaurant customers refuse to leave tips for their servers all the time, but only a select few openly admit that they're stiffing the servers out of racial prejudice. This week a waitress in Virginia was disturbed to see that the customers she'd served had decided not to tip her and instead wrote on their receipt: "We only tip citizens."

According to WHSV, Virginia resident Sadie Elledge is a waitress at Jess' Lunch in Harrisonburg. A couple came in on Monday and ordered two gyros plates, sodas, and a side of onion rings. Throughout the meal, Elledge got the impression the customers had a problem with her.

"They wouldn't talk to me. They would just nod their heads," she said.

After the couple left, Elledge saw that instead of a tip the woman at the table had written, "We Only Tip Citizens" on the line where a normal customer would have written the tip amount.

That is an extremely rude thing to write regardless of the server's immigration status, but adding to the absurdity of the situation is the fact that Elledge is actually a U.S. citizen of Mexican and Honduran descent. On top of that, Elledge said that the woman who left the note had an accent, and the couple was patronizing an immigrant-owned establishment. Restaurant owner Angeliki Floros is furious at the treatment of her staff and says the couple would not be welcome back at Jess' Lunch.

"I would like for them to not come here unless they regret what they did," said Floros.
