British Virgin Islands Food Fête
November is the perfect time to visit the British Virgin Islands. For a delectable four-week period, the islands will play host to the BVI Food Fête, a month-long festival to showcase the Territory's heritage and distinct flavors, as well as highlight local signature offerings like the famous Anegada spiny lobster and the legendary Painkiller cocktail.
An exciting line-up of events will highlight the destination's culinary scene and the talented chefs that bring it to life in the third annual BVI Restaurant Week. From November 14 to November 23, more than 20 participating restaurants throughout the British Virgin Islands will serve delicious three and six-course meals from unique prix-fixe menus at discounted prices. And with the island's close proximity to one another, island hoping to indulge in multiple restaurants' offerings is a must.
The BVI Food Fête also features a host of unique activities that further enrich the culinary celebration to include the Happy Hour Rum Tasting at the historic Callwood Rum Distillery, a social affair where guests can experience long held BVI traditions and sample rum from the property's still operating original boiler; the On the Rocks Bar Crawl, a tour of six bars around Virgin Gorda (November 15); the Visiting Chef Cook-Off Competition during Taste of the BVI, featuring Chef Roshni Gurnani, 2009 winner of the Food Network show Chopped (November 14 & 15); and the two-day Anegada Lobster Festival where guests will be taken on a culinary journey to different restaurants around Anegada to sample the island's savory spiny lobster prepared in a variety of ways, and ending with an exciting sunset party (November 29-30).
Many hotel and resort properties will also be hosting various culinary-related activities for guests staying on-site. The Rosewood Little Dix Bay beach resort will feature a special local dish of the week throughout the month, and Scrub Island Resort Spa & Marina will host a couple of top chefs from the United States as part of its Supper Club dinner event. Peter Island Resort and Spa will offer grilling classes and Wine Social Tuesdays, and the resort's restaurant, Tradewinds, will participate in BVI Restaurant Week with its "Taste of BVI" menu. All proceeds from the Soirée will benefit a local student pursuing a career in tourism.
