Jackie Newgent almost needs no introduction; as a classically trained chef, registered dietitian nutritionist, award-winning cookbook author, professional recipe developer, and media personality, Newgent has had quite the prolific career thus far.

Her cookbooks, The With or Without Meat Cookbook and The All-Natural Diabetes Cookbook, to name just two, are full of her original recipes and expert advice. However, Newgent, a New York City-based chef, shares the bulk of her healthy, plant-based recipes on her blog, Tasteover by Jackie.

This week, Tasteover by Jackie is our featured blog of the week! Continue reading to find out more about Newgent and her healthy eating blog.

The Daily Meal: What is the mission of your blog?

Jackie Newgent: Providing plant-based makeovers of not-so-good-for-you dishes into great tasting, good-for-you delights to ultimately promote plant-centered eating!

How'd you get started?

I'm a classically trained chef, cookbook author, and registered dietitian nutritionist; writing a blog is a natural outlet for my work.

What are some foods you can't live without?

Avocados, pasta, pizza, mint, sea salt, and the occasional chocolate milkshake and French fry!

Are there any foods you can't stand?

I'm a super taster and allergic to shellfish. So you can absolutely put shellfish into this category!

What is your proudest post?

It's so difficult to pick one! I think I need to look at it from the perspective of how readers respond via "likes" or "shares" to posts. One of my most shared posts in the past year is my Grilled Eggplant Gyros With Fresh Tzatziki. Here, I used eggplant in lieu of traditional gyro meat. I love creating something that's a new take on a recipe, especially if it results in boosting veggie intake.

What is your biggest blog blunder?

I don't consider anything a "blunder" if it impacts only a few people. Even if I provide just one new food idea for one person... If it results in them eating healthier, that's good thing. It's made a positive impact!

What are some other blogs you love?

I'm a huge fan of Half Baked Harvest. I'm a visual person and embrace being inspired by food images.

What are some food apps you love?

Though not specific to food, Instagram is definitely my favorite app for food. A food-specific app that I enjoy regularly, however, is Foodstand.

What is the best thing about blogging?

It provides me with an opportunity to make a real difference in people's health — all over our planet!

The worst thing?

It's challenging to find time in my already hectic career, but I make time for it!

Is there a recipe you're currently obsessed with?

There's not one recipe in particular. But I'm currently on a leafy green kick using all sorts of intriguing varieties that I find locally.

What would even your most loyal followers be surprised to learn about you?

My first "fancy" food creation (as a kid!) was bologna and potato chip canapes!
