Algonquin Hotel Responds To 'Gold Digger' Jab With New Cocktail
After an article took aim at the clientele of the storied Blue Bar in New York's famous Algonquin Hotel by asserting that the place was "riddled with gold diggers," the bar responded with the grace and snark one might expect from a place known for hosting Dorothy Parker and put a "Gold-Digger" cocktail on the menu.
Earlier this week the New York Post singled out Blue Bar as one of the New York spots that rich men could expect to find "riddled with gold diggers." Instead of getting defensive or denying the charges, the hotel responded by announcing on its Facebook page that it would be offering a special "Gold Digger Cocktail" for the weekend.
The Gold Digger Cocktail is made with Veuve Clicquot Champagne, St. Germain elderflower liqueur, and Goldschlager cinnamon-flavored schnapps with gold flakes floating in it. In keeping with the theme, the cocktail commands a premium price tag of $21.
