Take Your Next Fried Egg Up A Notch By Adding Sesame Seeds
It's no secret that there is a high demand for eggs from people all over the country. In fact, per Statista, nearly 9.2 billion dozen of eggs were produced in the U.S. in 2021 alone. And while eggs were one of the first items to see increased prices this year due to the high inflation rate and the unfortunate H5N1 (bird flu) taking a toll on the poultry industries, the demand for eggs hasn't really declined (via The Washington Post).
When it comes to cooking and eating eggs, everyone has their preference. You might be surprised to learn that there are a whopping 101 ways to cook an egg. From being fried, boiled, poached, and scrambled, to even getting baked in some of the most delicious recipes known to man, eggs have a pretty solid reputation for being a highly versatile food item.
With all of these eggs to go around, you've most likely mastered the best way to fry an egg. Paired with a morning cup of coffee, there's nothing more traditional and classic to start the day with than fried eggs and toast. Yet, as time goes on, humans will naturally find better and more delicious methods to elevate a traditional recipe. And even the good ol' fried egg isn't exempt from these amazing new creative ideas, so long as sesame seeds are in the picture.
Add sesame seed to your next fried egg
Sure, you might have your fried egg method down to a T by now, but why not take it up a notch? While a sprinkle of salt and pepper usually works just fine, you might potentially be missing out on some big flavors that could really complement your fried egg. According to Instagram-famous chef Christine Anne Flynn, sesame seeds are your new best friend when it comes to frying an egg. In a recent video she posted on Instagram, Flynn shows fans not only how to sprinkle sesame seeds onto your fried eggs but also how to literally cook your eggs in them.
To do this, heat some oil or butter in a pan. Once the oil starts heating up, sprinkle a flattened layer of sesame seeds in the pan. You'll then want to carefully crack an egg on top of the sesame seeds and sprinkle some more seeds on top. Once firm and cooked on the bottom side, flip the egg over. The result will be a delicious fried egg — cooked to your preference of over easy, medium, or hard — with a delightful crunchy texture on both sides.
Sesame seed-fried eggs aren't just for breakfast
While you might automatically think fried eggs are just for breakfast, think again. Thanks to Flynn's latest sesame seed-fried egg creation, now is the perfect time to take this egg to places it has never been before, such as your lunch or dinner table.
Even professional chef Jamie Oliver knows a good idea when he sees one. According to his website, Oliver pairs a similar sesame seed fried egg with fresh chilies and hoisin sauce, elevating it to a more Asian-inspired cuisine, fit for any meal of the day. With the addition of sesame seeds, the new fried egg recipe can be easily incorporated into a variety of meals. Just as you can easily transform your humble fried egg into a decadent dinner, so too can this sesame-seed fried egg. It can easily become your next favorite item to add some crunch to your ramen or pho, or perhaps it might just become your go-to topping for stir-fries. Either way, the addition of sesame seeds on both sides of the egg takes the traditional fried egg recipe up a notch.
