The Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade's humble beginnings date back as far as 1924. For 87 years, this parade has been delighting viewers and inspiring imaginations with its creative floats and balloons. More than 3.5 million spectators line the streets of New York City, along with more than 50 million at-home viewers, and the Macy's Parade has become a time-honored tradition for Americans across the nation. The parade features more than 1,500 dancers and cheerleaders, close to 1,000 clowns, almost 30 parade floats, a dozen marching bands, and nearly 8,000 participants for a grand show worth tuning into.
But while everyone thinks they know everything about their favorite annual parade, there are some interesting tidbits you may not have known.
