11 Healthy Snacks To Fuel After-School Activities (Slideshow)

As a parent, it is your duty to make sure your kids can function happily at these character-building after-school activities. In order to do that, they need to be armed with school snacks that will keep them fueled and focused. Not only do these snacks need to be healthy and delicious, they also have to be portable, so your kids can eat on the go. You want to collect foods that are high in fiber, healthy fats, and solid carbohydrates that can fuel their afternoon fun. We've compiled a list of delicious and healthy snacks that will totally get the job done so your kids and be ready to go during the afternoon!

Sunflower Seeds

Salty and snackable, sunflower seeds are packed with the vitamins your kids need to make it through their afternoon activities. Well, one vitamin in particular: Vitamin B5. Your little one needs sufficient amounts of this vitamin to produce energy, and one ounce of sunflower seeds can give him or her up to 20 percent of the daily recommended amount. 

Dried Fruit

Flavorful and tough enough to last all day in your kid's backpack, dried fruit is great for a pick-me-up in the afternoon. Just be careful; too much sugar, even the natural kind from dried fruit, can be dangerous. 

Bananas

Even just a half of a banana will amp your kid up for an afternoon of fun. Containing all of the right sugars, bananas help energize kids and mobilize them. They are the perfect snack for breaks between game periods.

Nuts

Aside from being packed with protein, nuts are fabulous for energy and concentration. Full of healthy fats and vitamins, nuts (especially in snacks like trail mix) can fuel an afternoon of fun in a delicious and healthy way.

Coconut

Shaved coconut ribbons worked into trail mixes or combined with other tasty morsels can be a great energy boosting snack. Even coconut water during breaks can revitalize a tired kid in no time, naturally. 

Oranges

Ever wonder why kids always munch on oranges during soccer practice? That is because their natural sugars replenish energy stores, and they are loaded with vitamin C, potassium, and folate.

Eggs

This one might be tough to pack, but a hardboiled egg after a day at school will really give them the extra push they need to get through their afternoon activities. Eggs also have a ton of vitamin D, which is great for building strong bones in growing bodies!

Whole Grain Cereal

Apples

Snacking on apple slices not only gives your kids a boost of energy, it fills them up and keeps them fuller longer thanks to the high amount of fiber this fruit contains.

Yogurt

When yogurt comes in so many varieties, it is hard to find one your kids won't love. Rich in magnesium, yogurt helps release energy and gives kids that extra kick to power through their after-school activities.
